FLF 3/2022: A digital platform as the entry point to pay-per-use

In the German trade journal FLF Finanzierung Leasing Factoring, Matthias Ainz of Findustrial explains why manufacturers and lenders struggle with usage-based models and how an independent digital platform lowers the barrier.

FLF 3/2022, Finanzierung Leasing Factoring

FLF Finanzierung Leasing Factoring is one of the established German trade journals for the leasing and factoring industry. In issue 3/2022, Matthias Ainz, Head of Finance Partnership & Solutions at Findustrial, wrote about the potential of pay-per-use as a financing product.

His starting point: using instead of owning has been around for a long time, but adoption is slow. Many companies are used to ownership, and manufacturers find it hard to switch from one-off sales to recurring revenue because of culture, missing billing systems and the capital the model ties up. Established lenders bring customer relationships and financing know-how, but have to solve flexible instalments and non-standard usage parameters, and should move early. The article describes an independent platform as the orchestrator of the process from asset to payment, with IoT data as an early warning indicator, as proof of condition and as a basis for ESG metrics such as energy consumption.
